I woke up one night gasping for air, shaking, terrified, realizing my tongue was blocking my airway. My heart was racing, and my body was fighting for life. That severe reaction to blood pressure medication forced me to rethink everything I knew about “health.” I began rebuilding my body from the inside out, and that journey became HolisticBPHealth.
If you’re a woman of color who wants to prevent, treat, or reduce high blood pressure with fewer medications or avoid them when it’s safe to do so this space is for you. Here, lived experience meets evidence-informed, holistic care.
You’ll learn how to:
My goal is to give you knowledge, confidence, and culturally resonant guidance, so you can protect your heart and advocate for your own well-being.
Welcome, Health Warrior. It’s time to defuse this silent threat and protect your body from its relentless, often invisible, assault.
When I graduated from a prominent integrative nutrition school, I realized there were better, gentler, more effective ways to care for our hearts than medication alone.
I embraced the principles of healing that I now share throughout this site:
- Using natural therapies wisely and safely.
- Restructuring lifestyle step by step, food, movement, stress, sleep.
- Supporting the body with key vitamins and minerals.
My vision is to help you create a life that supports healthy blood pressure, rather than constantly working against it.
“Coronary artery disease is a benign food-borne
illness which need never exist or progress.”
– Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr., MD

High blood pressure or hypertension is more than a number; it’s a powerful signal from your body. It affects millions and often does its damage quietly, until a crisis shows up.
My doctor told me I’d be on medication for the rest of my life. Maybe you’ve heard the same thing. The idea of taking pills forever with side effects and no clear plan to address the root causes can feel discouraging.
Here, our mission is to empower you to manage mild to moderate blood pressure levels through:
- Natural strategies.
- Therapeutic, evidence-informed alternatives.
- Lifestyle changes that improve your quality of life instead of shrinking it.
Inside the site, you’ll find:

Some people can lower mildly elevated blood pressure with lifestyle changes alone. Others need medication, temporarily or long-term.
Both paths are valid.
At holistic blood pressure health, we help you stack lifestyle wins that improve your numbers and your quality of life, while encouraging you to work closely with your clinician before changing any prescribed treatment.

Hello, I’m Donna Williams, Certified Holistic Health Coach and founder of HolisticBPHealth. I support people living with high blood pressure, especially women of color and those 40 and over, along with the elderly, who want to:
- Lower blood pressure naturally, where appropriate.
- Enjoy the foods they love, with smart adjustments.
- Build resilience against chronic disease.
Together, we’ll personalize your plan, honor your family history, and focus on what’s realistic for you right now. Step by step, we’ll work toward healthier numbers, more energy, and a stronger heart.
Knowing what counts as “normal” blood pressure is a powerful first step.
- Normal blood pressure is typically below 120/80 mm Hg.
- Consistently elevated readings increase your risk of serious complications like heart disease, kidney problems, stroke, eye damage, and, in men, erectile dysfunction.
-Increases the realities of the of consequences of high blood pressure significantly.
Hypertension is silent but dangerous. That’s why it’s crucial to:
- Know your baseline numbers.
- Monitor at home, when possible.
- Recognize patterns rather than panicking over a single reading.
High numbers don’t mean you’ve failed they mean your body is asking for support. If your readings stay elevated, it’s important to speak with your clinician early, not later.
At Holistic BP Health, plant-based support is one of our foundations. While modern medicine often focuses on pharmaceuticals, many plants and plant-based practices offer meaningful support for heart and vascular health.
You’ll learn about:

Juicing can be more than a treat. Done wisely, it can support:
- Sustainable weight management.
- Better energy.
- Long-term heart and metabolic health.
A long-term juice therapy approach means integrating these drinks into your daily routine in a balanced way. From my experience, this can be a powerful tool when combined with other lifestyle changes.
High blood pressure is extremely common and often silent. The hopeful news is nutrition, movement, sleep, stress care, and social support can make a meaningful difference.
For many people, these changes:
- Improve readings.
- Reduce risk of complications.
- Sometimes, in early stages and under medical supervision, can help reduce or even reverse hypertension.
My aim throughout HolisticBPHealth.com is to help you:
- Understand how high blood pressure develops
- See how food, habits, and environment influence your numbers
- Use home remedies and lifestyle changes to complement, and sometimes reduce the need for, medical treatment (with your clinician’s guidance)
According to the CDC, high blood pressure is a contributing factor to millions of deaths all over the world, highlighting the urgency of addressing this public health issue. By leveraging the science of nutrition and informed lifestyle choices, you can embrace food both as nourishment and medicine to support your immune system and prevent additional risks.
Statistics indicate that pre-hypertension frequently develops into hypertension if not addressed swiftly. Approximately 28% of American adults are estimated to have pre-hypertension, and many are unaware of their condition. And remember these numbers do not include children with high blood pressure.
Here’s how you can use food as your medicine and your lifelong nourishment, and at the same time support your immune system.
Within this website, you will find insights into how herbal medicines can influence your condition, and for you to consider the therapeutic and practical benefits of cultivating your own garden, even in small spaces.
We keep things simple and sustainable:
Alcohol affects everyone differently. Some people tolerate small amounts without major impact; others see clear increases in blood pressure. Understanding the nuanced relationship between alcohol, diet, and arterial health is critical. While alcohol might have beneficial effects under certain conditions, it requires individual evaluation.
We’ll help you evaluate your patterns and make choices that support your goals, instead of working against them.

I’d like to remind you my readers, that the higher your blood pressure, the greater your risk. For adults between 40 and 70 years of age, each increment of 20 mm Hg systolic blood pressure or 10 mm Hg in diastolic blood pressure your risk of cardiovascular disease doubles across the entire blood pressure range.
You, my international readers, might say, what I’m saying is all well and good but that’s only the American or Jamaican point of view and those risk factors doesn’t necessarily apply to us. Well, that’s just not true, not anymore, remember the Pandemic, its destruction was felt worldwide. Our health realities are interconnected.
If you want to reduce your risk of:
- Cardiovascular disease.
- Stroke.
- Heart attack and heart failure.
- Kidney disease.
You’ll need to bring your blood pressure as close to optimal as possible, especially if you also have other risk factors such as:
- Family history of early heart disease and premature death.
- Smoking.
- Diabetes.
- Overweight or obesity.
- Sedentary lifestyle.
- Chronic stress or emotional distress.
The information on high blood pressure is both sobering and hopeful. While it can be lethal if ignored, it is also often treatable and manageable. Early screening, foods that support healthier blood pressure, and meaningful lifestyle changes are proven strategies for:
- Reversing early damage.
- Lowering risk.
- Protecting your heart and organs over time.
“Food has the power to prevent, reverse, or suspend most common diseases, as well as influence your relationships, career, charity work, family life, and spirituality. Food is one of the most important foundations of your existence.”
– Scott Stoll, MD
